COURSE DESCRIPTION:
FREELY MOVEABLE JOINTS is an advanced-level Zero Balancing course that expands our focus from the foundation and semi-foundation joints to include the “freely moveable joints” of the body. These joints present unique therapeutic challenges because of the variety of their anatomy and their great ranges of motion. By the end of the program you will have the skills to evaluate and balance freely moveable joints and the knowledge to devise your own fulcrums to meet the specific needs of a given situation.
In Freely Moveable Joints we will review basic ZB principles and highlight their application to a number of joints in light of their specific anatomy. The skills and education inherent in this course will broaden your Zero Balancing abilities and will improve your Zero Balancing sessions.
This advanced course teaches applying to core ZB principles beyond the protocol to address the freely moveable joints of the body. Knees, ankles, fingers, toes, etc. .
You will learn:
- Highlights of Zero Balancing principles as they apply to FMJs
- Upper extremity: shoulder girdle, shoulder, elbow, wrist, fingers
- Lower extremity: knee, ankle, metatarsals, toes
- Accessing the sacro-iliac joint via the hip
- The powerful acetabular hip fulcrum
- Temporomandibular joint fulcrum
- Direct bone fulcrums and ‘bone bending’
- Teachings designed to deepen your ZB skills and protocol use
- By watching ZB demonstrations and exchanging ZB sessions
What Participants say about Freely Moveable Joints:
“As a massage therapist, this work allows me to identify and quickly relieve pain that would take much longer with massage.” -Antoinette Guiseppone, MT
“[This course] gives me more tools and confidence to work with elbows and knees and ankles and jaws. Most importantly, [FMJ] deepened my understanding of ZB overall.”
-Rachael Timberlake, LAC

Participants explore the terrain of health and illness from personal, societal and archetypal viewpoints through art, meditation, movement and sharing. Students learn to increase personal presence, awareness and sensitivity in their work, while understanding how to effectively obtain client information, identify precautions and design a session that is safe, effective and enhances wholeness. They also learn how these approaches and principles can be applied when Zero Balancing is used with clients who have other health challenges.
"As a modality that touches and focuses on our innate wellness and wholeness, Zero Balancing is profoundly valuable to those who are experiencing or have experienced cancer.” -Efrat Livny

- Awareness of the physical, mental, emotional, social, and psycho-spiritual issues that may arise with clients facing cancer
- To gather the essential client information
- To work safely and effectively by making informed treatment choices and appropriate session and fulcrum modifications
About Efrat Livny
Efrat Livny is a certified Zero Balancing practitioner and was a faculty member from 2012 to 2020. Following her own journey with cancer in 2001, Efrat developed bodywork and coaching skills to serve those living with cancer and other significant health challenges. She studied with Gayle MacDonald, Tracy Walton and other leading practitioners in the field of oncology massage. She also trained as a Cancer Guide with the Center for Mind Body Medicine. Efrat introduced oncology massage into the curriculum of several massage schools and taught for over a decade before coming to study, practice and teach Zero Balancing. She was instrumental in revising the ZBHA's policy on working with cancer in 2009. She developed the Bridges to Wholeness (BTW) course as a pathway for ZB practitioners to offer safe and effective Zero Balancing sesions for those living with cancer and other serious illnesses. She is delighted to see this course offered again as an opportunity for personal and professional growth, as well as amplifying a healing field.
About Amanda King
In 2013, during a very challenging year, Amanda invited Efrat to Massachusetts to teach the Bridges to Wholeness class. This class changed her own relationship to illness, and she gained a new appreciation of the power of ZB to support those on a cancer journey. In 2024, she reconnected with Efrat to revive the Bridges to Wholeness class which was put on pause during the pandemic. In addition to Core ZB, Alchemy and Geometry, Amanda co-teaches the Mentor Advancement Program and Essential Energetics of Zero Balancing with Lisa Berger and Michele Doucette. Amanda also teaches ZB Expanded Skull and Viscera classes. Her private practice is in Salem, MA where she offers massage therapy and Zero Balancing sessions.
