After 9 months of planning, the Mentor Advancement Pilot Program is launched!
Born from a request from several certified ZBers for in-depth training around how to mentor new ZB students, a grassroots committee formed late in 2019 to begin to shape what would be the new ZBHA Mentor Advancement Program (MAP). What began as a lean between a group of dedicated certified ZBers and 3 to 4 faculty members developed into a deep and regular conversation about what it means to mentor in Zero Balancing. In a nutshell, it is a donkey lean. With the vision and guidance of certified practitioners Chris Allen (NY), Sarah-Elizabeth Anderson (NH), Diane Bazin (VT), Leslie Connell (GA), Alison Mott (VT), Beverly Peirson (RI) and Suzan Sutton (VT), along with teachers Lisa Berger, Michele Doucette and Amanda King, this committee looked at creating a pathway for service and skill development for those who may or may not feel called to teach ZB.

Approved by the ZBTF and ZBHA Boards, the MAP Pilot program launched July 25-26 at Eden, Michele Doucette's new spectacular teaching space in southern Vermont. Our brave masked ZBers gathered to deepen skills related to key mentoring topics: personal growth, verbal and touch feedback, advanced framing, one-on-one relationship building, classroom assisting, presenting ZB, cultivating a successful practice, and study group leadership. We all learned from each other. And the biggest gift was to receive ZB touch after 4 months with little to none. The program will continue with homework assignments, peer mentoring, group Zoom calls and two more in-person trainings in the coming months — culminating in an April 2021 graduation and the creation of a stellar mentoring resource manual.

After feedback and fine-tuning of this pilot program, we will incorporate the MAP training and Certified ZB Mentor credentials into the ZBHA's structure.  We will announce plans for upcoming trainings in early 2021. Please stay tuned.
